Overview

Ancient Monoliths & Ocean Terraces: The Cross-Country Circuit

This eight-day cross-country journey connects Sri Lanka’s prime UNESCO World Heritage monuments, central mountain tea terraces, and historic southern coastal bastions into a seamless loop. Departing from the western coast, the route heads inland across lush lowlands, pausing at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage before establishing a base in Sigiriya. Here, travellers explore the rock-cut cave temples of Dambulla, ascend the 5th-century rock citadel of King Kashyapa, and embark on an afternoon 4×4 open-jeep safari across Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park to observe wild elephant herds.

Ascending into the central foothills through the spice plantations of Matale, the journey reaches the royal capital of Kandy. Over a two-night mid-country stay, guests tour the Peradeniya Royal Botanic Gardens, pay homage at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, and witness traditional Kandyan drumming and dance recitals. The trail then climbs into the mist-covered elevations of Nuwara Eliya, passing tumbling mountain waterfalls, rolling tea gardens, and colonial hill-country estates.

Descending from the highlands toward the western seaboard, the itinerary extends along the southern coastline to explore the 17th-century ramparts of Galle Dutch Fort, pausing at Hikkaduwa and Bentota before concluding with a comprehensive city orientation across Colombo. Engineered for comfortable and reliable travel, this program provides private vehicle logistics, dedicated representative coordination, and well-proportioned driving intervals.
